Why do you read?

"Study the science of art. Study the art of science. Develop your senses - especially learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else." – Leonardo Da Vinci

Why are you ignoring them?

If early adopters are most willing to pay and talk about great products and services they use most often, then this should be your focus. You are more comfortable talking to the masses because you feel that it’s less risky. Perhaps a rethink of risk and reward is in order.

Who should you speak to?

When will it stop working?

Clients get us to revise elements of their brands all the time. But often you see senior management going back to what it was before. Why? Because this has always worked. The challenge isn’t because it is working now. The challenge is to avoid being caught when it doesn’t work. It’s the same reason you send your car into service on time even though it is still working.

Did it work?

If it didn’t work, what is going to make it work in the future? Discussing other things will likely lead to blame.

What’s best moving forward?

How do you learn fast?

Learn to unlearn associating mistakes with failure. You probably learn faster from mistakes than from the right decisions. Mistakes are lessons to be learned.

How do you avoid failure?

What’s your salary for?

You are paid to deal with the difficult, challenging and hard work.

They didn’t need anyone for the easy stuff.

Did you enjoy it?

Learn to enjoy the ride.

Do you want it easy?

What do you want to hear?

The painful truth is a short term pain with a long term gain. You would think that it is a pretty obvious choice when the other is the comfortable lie that is a short term escape with a long term rot.

What is your choice?

What do you keep?

If you have been working in the same and parallel industry for at least 10 years, you should have collected a set of principles. Your own rule book so to speak. Great if you have written it down. Good if you have internalized it so much so that they are a checklist for you.

Managers who have been in the same industry for a long time and muddled in their thinking and decision making often do not have these. They collect all sort of experiences, do not see patterns, can’t isolate principles from these patterns, have too much inconsequential details; they drag every project down.

Isolate your principles, internalize them, write them down, evaluate them as you continue to gather experience and sharpen your expertise.

Do you have principles?

Are you open enough?

Great ideas come from open-minded people because all great ideas become great ideas when they have been repeatedly challenged. You can’t be sensitive to challenges to your ideas and yet expect to arrive at a great idea.

How good is your idea?
