Who are you reaching?



To deliver growth to your company, you need to deliver your brand message to as wide an audience as possible. Media that can deliver a wide audience especially new users can drive your growth.

Some online channels can do this but you still need to get back to your CPM. Digital is sexy. But don’t ignore what you call traditional media. They deliver in the millions. 

Get back to some basics - look at your reach, look at your CPM. You know these but you are ignoring it.

What about your website?



It’s crazy how we rely on some platforms as if they are ours.

Your website is yours. Your land. What you build on this land is yours. No one can take it away. You control everything there.

On another piece of asset that belongs to some Mark somewhere, that’s his land. Not yours. Use his land knowing full well that it is his land. Not yours. Use it like a medium like any medium that you use to send your message out, to engage. But do not for one second forget that it is NOT yours.

Whatever the data says, however tempting it is to use all resources on this. It is not yours.

Do you need to be mean?



I once heard a team being called the “mean team” by their boss in jest. But seriously, I do think they are mean. They have a reputation for being mean.

Some people love labels like these. It’s cool, to them. It says “I am an alpha whatever” and being “alpha” must be good right? Right?

Being mean can also used to camouflage weaknesses because people who are being attacked cannot focus on you. You are on the offensive. Your weaknesses is hidden. 

I think nastiness begets nastiness. It’s easy to be primal in our reaction. To respond with civility? Well, that takes wisdom, character and maturity.

Far more difficult to be civil than primal. But by far a better choice.

What’s your job?



Some people make it a point to point other peoples’ mistake out in public.

You know, the sort that cc the world what you did wrong on email? Or post to the Whatsapp group your mistake?

They make it their job. Their job is to point out your mistake in public.

I think it is a very stressful job. For one, you have to keep score because you know those who have gotten it bad from you before will be lurking in the corner patiently waiting for you to screw-up. And you WILL screw up. You know the saying, “to err is human”?

You know there is a better way of doing this. No matter how angry or frustrated you are. Praise in public. Punish in private.
