Do you only talk?

If all you do is talk about your plans, your dreams, and your ideas and never execute them, then they are probably not in your priority.

If they are a priority, you would have acted on them. No ifs and buts. Just make a choice. You want it bad enough to act upon it or you are in love with just talking about it.

Doing and talking aren’t the same. Deliberations that don’t lead to decisions are delusional.

Are you going to act?

Are you dreaming?

“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.” - T. E. Lawrence.

Dreams that come true are those acted upon by the blood, sweat and tears of toil.

Are your eyes open?

What’s next?

"Paradoxically, the man who has failed and one who is at the peak of success are in exactly the same position. Each must decide what he will do next, choose the course that will lead him to the future." – Jigoro Kano, Founder of Judo

What is your future?

Do you want to do great work?

Grow some thick skin.

Be ready for people to say, “That sucks” and “it’s crap” to you and be ready to go back to the drawing board.

How does your future look?

If you want to ignite the future, you need to create the spark now. A bright future doesn’t just happen. It takes some work, some planning, perhaps some luck that you create.

Why would your future be bright?

Does it say what it is?

Do you truly understand a click on your like, love, haha, wow, sad, angry?
Some clicks may not be as straight forward as it is. Take the time to understand your consumer not just on social media.

What are you missing?

Do you have a great plan?

Ideas are good.
Plans are great.
Execution will show you what you are made off.

How tough are you?

Where were you before?

What got you here can’t get you there. Of course, there are good values that we should not forget in your journey to get here. But if your objective is to be a better self, then it may be time to betray the old self.

The unrelenting attachment to be the true “you” may be holding you back from being a better you. You are constantly evolving for better or for worse. Holding on to what may not be working now will just make it worse for you. Let the old you go and embrace a better you.

Where can you be tomorrow?

Can you do it cheaper?

Of course we can. But is cheaper the objective?

What do you want to achieve?

How much experience do you have?

Having a skill set and being skilful are very different things. But often people confuse the two. Knowing how to do it and doing it well is the difference.

How good are you?

Can you run?

The mouse lost its cheese and went elsewhere.

The big tree has no choice when its environment changes. It can’t run away. It digs in, it changes itself to survive and then thrives in its environment. I believe this, I even wrote a short book about it in 2001. My good friend Yee Thong drew the beautiful pictures in it.

That’s how big old trees become big old trees.

If you dig in, you can find happiness. If you dig in, you can grow and you can be better. Seth’s blog entry here reminded me of my old book. Thanks, Seth.

What if you don’t have a choice?

Are you losing your religion?

Some people are so pious to their marketing beliefs to the point of religious fervour that it is frightening.

There are many ways to gain brand awareness and there are countless mediums you can mix and match in order to attain the objective. Don’t be fanatical about it.

Follow the principles of good integrated marketing, some phrases may not be in vogue now but the principles endure. Abide by the fundamentals but don’t be a fundamentalist.

You aren’t baptized to your marketing beliefs. As with most things, you should be cautious about extreme views. The middle path, always.

Why should there be commandments?

Why did you lie?

Sometimes people lie because they are confused in their quest for an answer. There are so many answers, the chance of being wrong is high. Their fear chooses the easy way out – a lie. Because it’s an exit from making a tough decision. That exit, however, takes them away from their answer. Now they no longer have the chance of a correct answer. They have exited with their lie. A downward spiral of confusion rushes together in that exit. When you lie to avoid tough choices, that lie blinds you to the truth

Are you blind?

Do you have the answer?

Whatever you are focused on now is just a part of something bigger and more complete. Don’t get so passionate and obsessed with it that it distracts you from the complete picture. Perhaps, at this point in your life, this seems like the Holy Grail. The answer you have been hunting for all your life. But in life, not many things are ever absolutes. They are almost always part of a bigger picture.

Will the answer ever be complete?

Why are you distracted?

All your whines, your anger, rants and dissatisfaction are merely distractions from your bigger objective. Look inward, see them clearly and rise beyond these distractions. They have nothing to do with your bigger plans and more importantly what you want to achieve in life.

These distractions - be it people or situations are just irritants, much like the thorny plants in your path on your way up the hill. You chop them down and move on without thinking about it because you have clarity of where you are headed.

When you rant and whine, you are distracted. It is like stopping to curse at the plants losing sight of the peak.

Who is the destructive clown?

Across the years we have developed a sense of spotting the clown within an organization that can derail the project. This clown that wears the mask of a critic that has nothing constructive to offer, you can spot him pretty easily. He usually begins by throwing questions your way without offering any of his own. He will drop in some credentials here and there. When he can’t offer any answer, the simple phrase he will use is, “You are the consultant, you tell me.”

This clown masks his insecurities with questions; looking like a critic he throws you and his management off focus on his own weaknesses. Almost always, he is afraid that the project will unveil his weakness or lack of proper planning and execution. He is trying to derail you before you unveil his incompetency.

This clown destroys. There is nothing funny about his actions.

It’s time to unmask him.

Is it funny anymore?

What happens when it’s not joyful anymore?

For those of you who have good discipline, you charge each and every to-do list with fervor. You stick to your routine with military-like precision. You are extremely productive in your friends and colleagues’ eyes.

At some point, you this sort of discipline may not work for you anymore. You may resent it, even.

It’s OK. It is a phase. Give yourself a break. Find the joy in doing things when you want to do it and how you want to do it. A list is just a list. It can’t adjust itself, only you can.

Spend 5 minutes on it when you don’t want to, an hour on it when you find the flow. Then when you feel, you are Ok, get back to the disciplined lifestyle you so crave for again.

Sometimes, you need to loosen the knot so you can tighten it better.

What happens if you keep pulling?

What might cause you problems when you ship?

Have someone work on this as part of the marketing plan, from highly probable scenarios to unlikely ones and how to solve them. Some will definitely come true. Others will not. Some you never expected.

For the unexpected ones, you would at least have someone who has gotten quite good at thinking about the solutions to problems.

What solutions do you have in store?

Do you love support?

Whenever you meet with challenges you look for support to help you through them. It’s no doubt that you love support. People who support you show you that they care and they love you. Support helps you grow.

Perhaps, you tend to hate challenges. It stresses you out, it gives you sleepless nights, it suffocates and strangles you. But sometimes challenges help you grow even faster than support would. You need tension and force to force growth out of you. Otherwise, you become complacent.

Challenges and support are like yin and yang. You need both to be at your best.

Do you like challenges?
