When does familiar become furniture?

Consistency builds memory.
That is why brands repeat colours, assets, messages and experiences. Familiarity makes recognition easier.
But familiarity has a strange side effect.
We stop noticing familiar things.
The picture on the wall. The clock in the office. That chair nobody remembers buying.
Brands can suffer the same fate.
Consistency becomes predictability. Predictability becomes invisibility.
This does not mean reinvent everything every six months. That creates a different problem.
Perhaps the answer is to remain recognisable while occasionally giving people a reason to look again.
Same person.
New story.
Still noticing?
