Does the captain need to know every wave?

Leadership creates strange expectations.
The person in charge is supposed to know.
What happened?
Why?
What do we do next?
There is comfort in an answer.
So leaders sometimes provide one even when they do not have it.
The problem is that false certainty can be more dangerous than admitted uncertainty.
Saying "I don't know yet" does not remove authority if it is followed by "but here's how we'll find out."
People do not necessarily need omniscience.
They need honesty, direction and judgment.
The captain does not control the sea.
He still has to steer.
Know enough?
