Yes to the project. Yes to the meeting. Yes to the new customer. Yes to helping someone. Yes to another opportunity.
No sounds negative.
Perhaps we have the definitions backwards.
Every yes spends something finite. An hour committed here cannot be committed there. Money invested in one initiative cannot fund another. Attention placed on five priorities is not five times the attention.
This is why strategy is difficult.
The problem is rarely finding things worth doing. There are always plenty.
The problem is choosing which worthy things you will not do.
A calendar filled with yes eventually becomes a very long list of invisible noes.
